Bill Morgan returns to the track & field staff of head coach Kathy Manizza, serving in a voluntary capacity.

One of the most respected track & field coaches in the nation, Morgan retired from the University of Connecticut after 33 years of coaching at the Division I level in 2014, the last 11 as head women’s cross country and women’s track & field head coach.

 Prior to taking over as head coach, the Coventry resident served as assistant coach at UConn for 22 years. While at UConn, Morgan was part of 42 track & field championships, specializing in all field events. He earned his national reputation after guiding numerous athletes to collegiate, national and Olympic Trials success.

Morgan’s athletes at UConn were represented in every Olympic Trials between 1992 and 2012 and in the Olympic Games four times between 2000 and 2016. His athletes earned All-America honors 56 times and qualified for 30 NCAA Division I national championships.

At UConn, the 14-time Coach-of-the-Year led the program to national rankings in both 2011 and 2012, and ten ECAC Championships, including three straight outdoor titles and four straight indoor crowns. With Morgan on the staff, the Huskies captured four Big East championships in addition to placing second ten times.

Morgan has been involved in the USATF Women’s Junior Elite Throws Camp and the USATF Women’s Elite Heptathlon Summit.

In 2014, Morgan was presented with the ECAC Commissioner’s Award for meritorious service.

Morgan, who taught physical education at Horace Porter School in Columbia for 30 years, holds B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Education from Southern Connecticut and a Sixth Year Advanced Certificate in kinesiology from the University of Connecticut.
