Gibeault lettered one season at Eastern in 1979 before moving on to a three-year career (1980-82) at Division II Southern Connecticut State University, where he won the 1981 national championship as a junior. He graduated from Southern holding the program record of 16-feet-4 inches which he established as a senior in 1982 -- a mark which still rates as the seventh-best in program history.

A native of Brooklyn, Gibeault set the pole vault record of 14-3 at Eastern as a freshman in 1979, a height which currently ranks second all-time.

Gibeault's daughters -- Maggie and Molly -- both competed collegiately in the pole vault. Maggie lettered two seasons at Eastern (2009-11) and has the third-best mark (9-2 1/4) in program history. After winning a Connecticut high school pole vault title at Woodstock Academy, Molly was a four-year member of the University of Southern Maine track & field team (2013-17) , winning three consecutive Little East Conference championships and competing on seven indoor and outdoor LEC title teams. She set the USM program record of 12-5 1/2 as a senior.

Gibeault has earned a Connecticut high school coaching certificate and is a certified Level 2 coach with USA Hockey. He earned his B.S. Degree in Physical Education from Southern in 1984 and is employed in private business.
