Dave Pavia ’06 joins the staff of head coach David Nicholson as a jumps coach for the track & field program after spending the past 11 years as the owner of The Speed Center, where he will continue to train athletes for athletic development. With 20 years of experience in strength & conditioning and speed training, the Stamford native has worked with hundreds of athletes at every level.
At Eastern, Pavia earned a degree in Health and Fitness, Sport Management with a concentration in coaching. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He also has certifications in USA Track and Field Level 1 and USA Weightlifting Level 1. Pavia has presented on the topic of Linear Acceleration Training and its application to multi-directional movement for the NSCA.
Prior to his creation of The Speed Center, Pavia worked with Integrated Athletic Performance, where he was the director of performance. He also worked with Velocity Sports Performance as an assistant director and as a sports performance coach.
While at Eastern, Dave was a four-year member of the track and field program, competing in both the sprints and jumps, as well as relays. In Little East Conference competition, he was a six-time individual champion in the sprints and long jump, and six-time relay champion at 100 and 400 meters. At the New England level, he was a three-time Division III All New-England performer at 55 and 100 meters who achieved All New England recognition six times with the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.
As a senior, he shared the departmental Individual Sport Male Athlete-of-the-Year Award and won the SAAC Shining Star Award for academic achievement as a student-athlete.
A member of the soccer, indoor track, and lacrosse programs at Stamford High, Pavia was a recipient of the Coaches Award for his final season of lacrosse.
