CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Eastern Connecticut State University softball team closed out its ten-game, six-day trip at the National Training Center Wednesday by recording its first sweep and finishing 5-5. The Warriors host Massachusetts Boston in a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. in its northern and Little East Conference openers.

 Senior third baseman Arielle Cooper (Mystic) tied the Eastern Connecticut State University softball career home run record with a game-tying solo home run leading off the seventh inning and freshman DP Alicia White (Colchester) recorded her second walk-off hit of the season with a double two batters later to carry the Warriors to the victory over the University of Chicago Wednesday afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.

Cooper's first home run of the game - a solo shot leading off the third - gave Eastern a 2-1 lead in the third inning before Chicago tied the game in the sixth on a leadoff triple and sacrifice fly. Cooper's 28th career homer leading off the seventh- her fourth of the trip - tied the game. After freshman Alyssa Hancock (Waterford) was walked, White unloaded an opposite-field double to left to send Hancock home with the game-ending run.

 Making her fifth start of the year and fifth of her career, sophomore Erin Miller (Waterford) gained her first career complete game and second win in three decisions this year by giving up only six hits and two walks while fanning five.

 Eastern Conn. 16, Carleton College 0 (5)

One day after being swept for the first time on the trip and being mercy-ruled, Eastern (5-5) completed the sweep by blasting Carleton with 18 hits in a game stopped after five innings.

Cooper recorded her ninth multi-hit game on the trip with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored as six players contributed at least six hits. Junior centerfielder Mattie Brett (Waterford) was 4-for-4 and drove in five runs and senior first baseman Kelly Paterson (Southington) was 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.

Brett had a two-run double and scored in a five-run first inning, a two-run triple in the second, and in a six-run fourth singled and scored and drove in a run with a double. Paterson had a two-run single in the first, RBI double in the third and two-run double in the fourth.

Sophomore Shannon Martin (Wethersfield) gained her first career win by tossing the final three innings. She gave up two hits and walked four while fanning two.

On the trip, Eastern batted .363 as a team with a .947 fielding percentage and 5.19 earned-run average.

Cooper batted .622 (23-for-37) with 14 runs scored, five doubles, four home runs and two triple and a 1.189 slugging percentage. She opened the season ranked in a tie for 16th all-time in hits, but has vaulted into sixth place with 173, 33 behind the ball-time leader.

White batted .464 (13-for-28) with 11 RBI, three doubles, a home run and six runs scored. Brett batted .433 (13-for-30) with two doubles and a triple, nine RBI and nine runs scored, and junior second baseman Megan Godwin (Manchester) batted .406 (13-for-32) with 11 runs and four RBI.
