Trailing 3-0, Eastern (1-5) broke through against All-America junior Allyson Fournier for two runs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by junior Sam Rossetti (Shelton) which plated sophomore Alyssa Hancock (Waterford) – who reached on a walk -- and run-scoring single by junior Shannon Martin (Wethersfield).
Tufts was able to secure the victory when freshman Cassie Ruscz belted a grand slam with no one out in the seventh inning to provide the Jumbos with a five-run cushion.
Senior Mattie Brett (Waterford) moved within one of her 100th hit in her three-year Eastern career (she had 55 hits as a freshman in 2011 at Endicott) with a seventh-inning double.
