Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. -- Sophomore Samantha Moss pitched a complete-game one-hitter and SUNY Plattsburgh scored both of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in a 2-1 softball victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Wednesday morning at the National Training Center.
At right: Erin Miller
The win is the first of the year for Plattsburgh (1-4) and sends Eastern (1-8) to its fourth straight loss.
With Eastern trailing 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning, junior Shannon Martin (Wethersfield) doubled to break up the no-hit bid, and freshman pinch runner Samantha Bardos (Norwalk) later scored on a two-out infield error, but Moss ended the game on an infield pop. Moss (1-2) struck out two, walked one and hit two batters.
The Cardinals reached Eastern junior righty Erin Miller (Waterford) for two runs on three of their six hits and a passed ball.
Prior to the seventh, Eastern had baserunners aboard the first (walk), third (hit by pitch) and fifth (hit by pitch). With the Warriors trailing 2-0 in the fifth, senior Jen Tamindzija (Malden, MA) was hit by pitch with one out, freshman pinch runner Hannah Latham (Salem, NH) moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Miller, but Moss induced an infield pop to strand the runner.
Miller (1-4) fanned three without a walk in the complete-game effort.
Eastern was scheduled to play UW-Stevens Point Wednesday at 11 a.m.
