Box Score 2 HARTFORD, Conn. -- Junior Erin Miller (Waterford) pitched a complete-game five-hitter in the opener and sophomore Alyssa Hancock (Waterford) was one of three players to homer in the nightcap as the Eastern Connecticut State University softball team swept Trinity College, 3-1, 14-0 in five innings, in its northern openers Wednesday.

Miller (3-4) gave up four singles and a triple in the opener, fanning two and walking three, and Eastern scored all of its runs in the top of the third inning on a leadoff double by No. 9 hitter Stephanie Johnson (Plantsville), an RBI single by Hancock, run-producing sacrifice bunt by senior centerfielder Mattie Brett (Waterford) and an RBI single by freshman catcher Tyler Keegan (Middletown).
Leading 4-0 in the second game, Eastern scored ten runs in its final two at-bats on nine hits and two walks en route to its 12th straight victory over Trinity (4-11). The Warriors scored four times in the fourth after there were two out to open up an 8-0 lead en route to their fifth straight victory.
Junior DH Shannon Martin (Wethersfield) drove in the first runs of the six-run fifth with a two-run home run and freshman Samantha Bardos (Norwalk) drove in the final two with her first collegiate hit – a two-run home run. Hancock had two RBI singles and scored twice in those final two innings, Brett singled and scored, junior first baseman Sam Rossetti (Shelton) doubled in two runs, senior second baseman Jen Tamindzija (Malden, MA) doubled (to start the two-out rally in the fourth) and scored, and Johnson singled and scored.
In the nightcap, Hancock walked and scored the first run in the first, and unloaded a solo home run in the third before recording RBI singles and scoring in the fourth and fifth.
In her first collegiate start (sixth appearance), freshman Samantha Valentine (Ridge, NY) tossed a five-hit shutout in the second game, fanning and walking two to gain credit for the win in her first decision. Four of the hits were singles.
In the sweep, Hancock was 5-for-7 with five runs scored and four RBI; Johnson 3-for-5 with two runs scored; Rossetti 2-for-4 (both doubles) with two walks and three runs; and Keegan 2-for-4 with three RBI. Nine different players had at least one hit, ten scored a run, and six drove in one.
Eastern hosts Plymouth State University Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader in its home and Little East Conference openers.
