WILLIMANTIC, Conn. --  Three matches into the season, Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer goalkeepers have still not recorded a save.

Friday afternoon, Eastern (2-1-0) allowed only three shots – all of which were off the target – in defeating Johnson & Wales University (2-1-0) for the eighth time in this series without a loss, 3-0, at Thomas Nevers Field.

The Warriors scored all of their goals in the second half – the first two coming in a span of eight minutes – and finished with a 16-3 advantage in shot. Freshman forward Nikki Basilicato (Guilford) recorded her second goal of the year off the bench, sophomore forward Hailey Lehning (Woodbury) the first of the season and freshman forward Danielle Wendland (Hamden) the first of her career off the bench to lift Eastern, which has scored 24 unanswered goals against the Wildcats in this series.

Junior midfielder Kaitlin Thibodeau (Tolland) was credited with assists on the first two goals and Wendland scored an unassisted goal two minutes after hitting the left post from the top of the box to round out the scoring.

Thibodeau's cross from the right end line set up Basilicato first goal 20 minutes into the second half. Eight minutes later, senior back Whitney Mantel (Stamford) sent a free kick from 30 yards out toward the far post, where Thibodeau got a touch on it and Lehning finished it off. With eight minutes left, a loose ball on the right side of the box rolled to Wendland near the left post, and her hard shot from the beat Wildcat junior keeper Alex Place to wind up the scoring.

The Wildcats' best chance to score came 14 minutes into a scoreless game, when   junior midfielder Mackenzie Flynn gained control with space in the box. Flynn spun quickly, but her ground ball shot rode wide of the left post.

Mantel, senior Taylor Shannon (Waterford) and sophomores Jamie Belden (Middlebury) and Joanna Weir (Hebron) played all 90 minutes on the back line for Eastern. Eastern's defense allowed only one shot in the second half. The visitors' first corner kick came with 7:36 left in the first half.

Freshmen Kaley Kennedy (Enfield) and Katie Dadio (Hamden) split time in making their first collegiate appearances in net for Eastern. Kennedy made her first start and Dadio gained her first win.

Eastern has outshot its opponent 50-8 in three matches. Seven of the opposing shot were off the mark and one found the net with six seconds left in a 1-0 loss to the University of Saint Joseph (CT) Sunday on the second day of the Warrior classic.

Eastern visits Albertus Magnus College Sunday at 1 p.m.
