Warriors Re-Gain Winning Ways, Down Hope

CLERMONT, Fla. – Fourteen players contributed to the scoring as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 17-8 victory over Hope College Monday morning at the National Training Center.

Leading 3-2, Eastern (2-5) outscored Hope (0-2) 7-1 to move out to a 10-3 halftime lead. The lead never dipped below six in the second half.

Led by freshman midfielder Maggie Bodington (Stratford), Eastern won 19 of 26 draws and the Warriors forced the Flying Dutch into 31 turnovers which played a large role in Hope converting only 43 percent of its clear attempts.

Bodington won eight draws and sophomore midfieler Karen Trescott (Somers) and sophomore defender Devyn Doran (South Kingstown, RI) combined for 12 ground balls, Trescott leading all players with seven.

Sophomore midfielder Paige Schneider (East Lyme) and senior attack Meg Eremita (South Windsor) were two of 14 Eastern players to contribute a goal or assist, sparking the Warriors to a 32-17 edge in shots.

Schneider had four goals and an assist and Eremita one goal and five assists. Junior attack Tess Mraz (Fairfield) chipped in three goals and an assist. Mraz and Schneider lead Eastern with 13 goals each, Eremita with 14 assists and 17 points.

Eight Eastern players recorded the first points of either the season or of their careers.
Sophomore goalie Taylor Emmerson (Colchester) made six saves, preventing Hope from scoring as many as two consecutive goals only once.
Hope, competing on the intercollegiate level after nearly 15 seasons as a club sport, got two goals from Alexandra Webb, four ground balls from Linnea Ridlen and ten saves from freshman goalie Michaela Biegner.
Eastern visits Bridgewater State University a week from Tuesday at 6 p.m.
