Softball: On Second Day of Season, Warriors are No Match Yet for No. 7 East Texas

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Junior All-America second-teamers Jayme Perez and Lacey Lindsey each homered and combined to drive in five runs to power No. 7 nationally-ranked East Texas Baptist University to a 10-0, five-inning softball decision over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at the NFCA Leadoff Classic at the South Commons Complex.

East Texas (12-4) No. 8 hitter Shelby Irlbeck  drove in two runs with a two-out single to highlight the Tigers' four-run first inning, Perez drove in two with a two-out single to make it 7-0 in the third, Lindsey slammed a two-run homer in the fourth, and Perez made it 10-0 with a two-out solo home run in the fifth.

Sophomore righty Raquel Tello became the second pitcher to shut out Eastern (0-3) in as many games, twirling a one-hitter with three walks and four walks. Eastern No. 9 hitter Danielle Robillard (Swansea, MA) had Eastern's hit, singling to lead off the third. She was left on the second base after Tello got two outfield fly balls to end the inning.

In three losses, Eastern has commited ten errors which have led to ten unearned runs.

Eastern was scheduled to face SUNY Oneonta Saturday at 7 p.m.
