Women's Lacrosse: Conn Shuts Down Eastern's Offense, Wins Non-Conference Verdict

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.— Playing against a team with the ability to possess the ball for long periods of time, Eastern Connecticut State University fell behind by six goals six minutes into the second half and was unable to cut into that deficit in dropping a 10-3 non-conference decision to Connecticut College Wednesday afternoon at the Silfen Turf Field.

Eastern (2-4) mustered only one of its 11 shots from the attack position in dropping its tenth straight decision to Conn (2-2). The Camels defeated their second straight Little East Conference team after opening with a 17-6 loss to No. 4 nationally-ranked Middlebury College and 17-2 to Springfield College (a team which edged Eastern, 15-11, in the Warriors' season-opener).

All-conference junior midfielder Paige Schneider (East Lyme), who played her high school lacrosse seven miles from the Conn College campus, scored all three of Eastern's goals, giving her a team-leading 16 in four matches.

Schneider got the Warriors on the board by connecting on the team's only free-position goal with six minutes gone to cut the Camel's lead in half. Schneider struck again eight minutes later to slice a three-goal deficit to two, and rounded out her and the team's scoring seven minutes into the second half. By that time, however, the Warriors trailed by six. Conn tacked on two insurance goals 66 seconds apart late in the game to make it a seven-goal differential.

Eastern junior Taylor Emmerson (Colchester) made three saves and allowed nine goals, while freshman Jessica Purick (Riverhead, NY) stopped the first two shots she saw and left after playing 14:38 and giving up one goal.

All-conference junior defender Devyne Doran (South Kingstown, RI) led Eastern with five ground balls, two draws and four caused turnovers.  Sophomore defender Katie Calnen (Granby) won three ground balls and caused a turnover.

Conn won 11 of the game's 14 draws and was able to successfully clear 11 of 12 attempts, but Eastern was able to force them into 14 turnovers.

Conn sophomore All-America Meg Raskin made seven saves in net and seven different players combined for the Camels' goals.

Eastern faces Massachusetts College Sunday at 11 a.m. at Clermont, FL.
