AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Eastern Connecticut State University senior righty Patrick O'Neill (Thomaston) continued his impressive start to the season as he pitched a seven-inning complete game without allowing an earned run as the Warriors downed the University of Maine at Farmington, 12-1, Wednesday morning at Lake Myrtle Park.
O'Neill (2-0) was in cruise control all game and utilized his breaking ball to keep hitters off balance throughout. He faced only four batters over the minimum, scattering four singles while fanning three without walking a batter. He retired 16 of the final 18 batters that he faced.
Eastern (8-2) freshman outfielder Alexander White (West Hartford) set the tone with his second home run of the year leading off the game to highlight a five-run first innings. Senior catcher Tim Budd (Cheshire) also drove in two runs in the first with a single. Senior third baseman Chad Adams (Ware) also had two hits and drove in run.
Junior catcher Jordan Croteau had half of Farmington's (4-2) hits.
Eastern, ranked fourth in New England, faces No. 4 nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Auburndale Thursday at 12:15 pm.
