Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – Junior midfielder Paige Schneider (East Lyme) scored twice in her team's early 5-1 scoring run and finished with a career-high seven goals in boosting the Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team to a 15-10 Little East Conference victory over Western Connecticut State University Tuesday afternoon at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.
Eastern (8-5, 2-1 LEC) never trailed and broke the only tie of the match on the first career goal from sophomore attack Sam Seymour (Colchester) and two from Schneider in a span of less than two minutes that made it 8-5 with nine minutes left in the first half.
The win is the sixth in the last seven games for the Warriors while Western has dropped five of its last six.
Ranked second in the LEC with 41 goals, Schneider connected on seven of ten shots, with freshman attack Michelina Pinto (Gronton) adding three goals and two assists. With two assists, sophomore attack Katie Burke (South Windsor) improved her season-leading assist total to 22, third-most in the conference.
The Warriors outshot Western, 38-22. Making her second start of the year, Western senior goalie Marisa Remley made nine saves and left on the short end of a 10-6 score. Junior Missy O'Donnell, the team's No. 1 goalie, stopped seven shots in the second half.
Eastern junior goalie Taylor Emmerson (Colchester) turned back seven shots to record her eighth win of the year. It was also the 22nd career victory in net for Emmerson, who moved ahead of Kristsianna Ibsen into fourth place all-time in career triumphs.
Schneider's third goal of the match with nine minutes left in the first half made her the 16th player in program history with as many as 100 career goals and her sixth goal of the match four minutes into the second half was her 40th this year, marking the second straight season that she has recorded at last 40. She had exactly 40 as a sophomore and finished Tuesday's game with her 41st marker of the year. It was the final goal of the game and came with 6:23 left.
Sophomore midfielder Maggie Bodington (Stratford) won six of Eastern's 15 draws. Western (4-7, 1-2) team scoring leader Destinee Carey led the Colonials with five goals, with junior Raquel Heitor and junior defender Carley Altemose both winning four draws.
