DANBURY, Conn. – The Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team scored the final eight points of regulation to force overtime, but senior guard Jordyn Nappi (Southington) scored eight points in overtime and stole the ball at midcourt on the Colonials' final possession as Eastern Connecticut State University maintained a share of the Little East Conference lead with a 75-73 overtime win Wednesday night at Feldman Arena.

A winner of three straight, Eastern (10-5, 5-1 LEC) won its fifth straight conference game in defeating Western (10-6, 3-3 LEC) for the sixth straight time.

The Warriors led by eight, 61-53 with 2:55 left in regulation but went scoreless the rest of the way. Western got a steal and uncontested layup from sophomore Tashai Price with 58 seconds left to cut the Eastern lead to two. A blocked shot with 28 seconds left returned possession to Western and Emily Dobson tied the game with a jump shot with 15.6 left. Dobson was fouled on the play but missed the free throw. The Colonials got the offensive rebound but threw the ball away as time expired in regulation.

In overtime, Eastern trailed three times by a point before Western was whistled for an off-ball foul, and Nappi canned two free throws with 2:09 left to give the Warriors the lead for good, 69-68. After senior center Lexis Foster (Groton) blocked a shot, Nappi sank a jump from the left side to make it 71-68 and the Warriors scored their final four points from the foul line.

Western overcome a poor shooting start, erasing an early nine-point deficit when it missed 11 of its first 12 shots. Trailing by eight at halftime, Western dropped back by 15 early in the third quarter after the Warriors scored the first seven points. Foster opened the game with five in a row on a conventional three-point play after being fouled after grabbing an offensive rebound and two free throws, and Santagata made it 37-22 with a turnaround bank show two minutes into the half.

Nappi recorded her fourth 20-point game of the year, leading four double-digit scorers with 20. Sophomore forward Kelsey Santagata (Stamford) added 17 points, Foster 15 points, a game-high 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. Nappi and senior guard Julia DePoi (Brookfield) chipped in six rebounds each to provide Eastern with a +13 advantage on the boards. Junior guard Kelly Reardon (Holyoke, MA) handed out a career-high nine assists.

Eastern hosts the University of Southern Maine Saturday at 1 p.m. The Huskies defeated the Warriors in the LEC opener for both teams, 66-59, Dec. 3.
