WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team did not score from the floor in the second quarter, but followed with 16 points in the third  to gain a 47-39 Little East Conference victory over Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

Eastern (7-4, 2-1 LEC) trailed by eight points late in the first quarter and by five after ten minutes before the teams played a bizarre second ten-minute quarter which resulted in each club scoring only three points. The Warriors got their second quarter points on free throws -- missing all 13 of their field goal attempts in the frame – while Plymouth (2-8, 0-3 LEC) converted just one of 13 field goals – getting a three-point field goal from senior guard Savannah Miller that gave the Panthers a seven-point lead with 1:29 left before the half. Neither team scored for the first six minutes of the second quarter before Eastern senior guard Jordyn Nappi (Southington) canned the second of a two-shot foul.

In the decisive third quarter, Eastern forced seven of Plymouth's game total of 22 turnovers with six steals as the Panthers failed on 15 of 17 field goal attempts. Eastern sophomore forward Kelsey Santagata (Stamford) shook free from a two-game 0-for-14 shooting slump by connecting on two of three field goals in the third quarter, with freshman forward Mya Villard (Cromwell) coming off the bench to also sink two of three and grab three rebounds. Senior guard Julia DePoi (Brookfield) had three points, three rebounds, three steals and an assist in the quarter.

Nappi led Eastern in scoring for the eighth time this year with 17 points, Santagata adding eight points, eight rebounds and five steals, DePoi seven points, three assists, three steals and two blocks and senior center Lexis Foster (Groton) six points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Senior forward Kayla Wyland had ten points, a game-high 12 rebounds and three blocks for Plymouth, which had halted a seven-game losing streak Thursday with a 56-32 win over Newbury College. Senior guard Ace Lawrence  topped all players with 20 points but managed just 29.2 percent shooting from the floor.

The teams combined to shoot just 23.6 percent from the floor and turned the ball over 38 times, , but were a combined 21-of-26 from the stripe.

Eastern visits The Sage Colleges Monday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game.
