Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – Freshman lefty Jacky Arndt (Chelmsford, MA) pitched a complete-game four-hitter to gain credit for a win in her first start and the Eastern Connecticut State University softball team collected ten hits in a 12-3 five-inning victory over Greenville College Monday afternoon.
In the second game, senior first baseman Gina Georgetti (Milford) gave Eastern (1-3) a first-inning lead with a two-run, two-out single, but Central College (IA) broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth en route to a 7-2 victory.
Against Greenville (3-2), senior DP Kristyn Ryan (Barkhamsted) poked her sixth career home run to tie the game at 1 in the second and the Warriors pulled away with five runs on three hits and two errors in the third and four more on two hits, an error and two stolen bases in the fifth.
Freshman Teresa Marchitto (Orange) drove in a run with a double in the third and shortstop Sara Pisanelli (Wallingford) plated two in the fifth with a single.
Ryan had three hits and Pisanelli two against Greenville. Arndt (1-0) struck out five and walked three. In two appearances, Arndt has fanned eight in 9 1/3 innings and allowed only six hits.
Senior righty Karly Olson (1-1) pitched a complete-game four-hitter for Central (5-1) and drove in three runs with two hits, two of the RBIs coming on a ground ball which tied the game at 2-2 in the third. Central went ahead with two runs in the fifth on three hits, Olson driving in the first run and a wild pitch accounting for the second. Sophomore Emily Wilson's first home run of the season was the only Central hit in the inning.
Georgetti and Ryan evenly split Eastern's four hits.
Senior righty Samantha Valentine (Ridge, NY) pitched into the fifth inning, allowing seven hits and two walks and four runs in absorbing her second loss in two decisions. Freshman lefty Morgan Sanson (Thomaston) allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) over the final 2 2/3 innings in her second appearance.
Wednesday in Tucson, Eastern faces UW-Lacrosse at 2 p.m. ET and Trinity University (TX) at 4:30 p.m. ET. La Crosse defeated Eastern, 9-1 in five innings Sunday.
