Box Score 2 TUCSON – Eastern Connecticut State University freshman lefty Jacky Arndt (Chelmsford, MA) pitched a complete-game four-hitter in a 4-2 first-game loss to Wisconsin-La Crosse and Trinity University won its Tucson opener by breaking the game open with four runs in the sixth inning in a 7-1 victory over the Warriors in softball action Wednesday.
Pitching her second complete game in as many starts, Arndt (1-1) fanned seven and walked two. La Crosse (10-2) broke the game open with four runs in the fifth, two coming in on freshman Stephanie Cole's two-run double en route to its eight win in Tucson without a loss.
Senior Kristyn Ryan (Barkhamsted) drove in Eastern's (1-5) first run with a third-inning single that gave the Warriors an early lead. The hit – one of five for Eastern – drove in senior Rebecca DeFeo (Exeter, RI), who was running following freshman Sara Pisanelli's (Wallingford) single.
Against Trinity (6-11), senior Samantha Valentine (Ridge, NY) and freshman lefty Morgan Sanson (Thomaston) combined to allow nine hits, four of them coming on five hits and a walk in the sixth.
Senior Gina Georgetti (Milford) doubled in Eastern's run in the top of the sixth to cut the Tigers' lead to 3-1.
Thursday in Tucson, Eastern faces Stevens Tech at noon EDT and the University of Puget Sound at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
