Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Freshman Danielle Flint hit a fourth-inning grand slam to put the Western New England University softball team in front for good in a 6-3 first-game win and the Golden Bears scored multiple runs in each of the final four innings in an 11-3 second-game win stopped after six innings in sweeping Eastern Connecticut State University Friday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Golden Bear Park.
Senior Samantha Bardos (Norwalk) had three hits and drove in three runs and scored two for Eastern (7-15), with junior Jessica Seymour (Barkhamsted) collecting two hits, as did freshmen Teresa Marchitto (Orange) and Sara Pisanelli (Wallingford)
Four Eastern pitchers – three of them freshmen -- gave up 20 hits (17 of them singles) and walked nine, but nearly half of the runs they allowed were unearned.
Western New England (16-6) ended a two-game losing streak with the first-game win in improving to 5-1 at home this year.
Eastern hosts Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
