DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After opening their outdoor season indoors on March 25 due to winter weather and unsafe facilities and having this past Saturday's original meet cancelled, the Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams finally made their official outdoor debut Sunday with strong performances at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
Getting points from 11 different individuals, the Warriors placed seventh in a field of 18 teams, totaling 60 ½ points.
Track Highlights
Junior Nick Afragola (Killingworth) placed among the top 12 percent in both of his individual events. Afragola accumulated seven of the team's total of 60 ½ points when he won his heat and ran to sixth place among 51 in the 100 (11.40) and captured fifth among 56 in a time of 22.87 in the 200.
Sophomore Matt Pinney (Mansfield) was third in a field of 26 with a mark of 43-5 ¼ (13.24m) to collect six points.
Freshman Zach Parisella (Hamden) raced to fifth place among 59 runners in the 800 with a time of 1:59.54, and senior Lawrence McGill (New Haven) was also fifth at 400 meters in a time of 51.14 in a field of 39. Both picked up four points.
Field Highlights
Sophomore Chidebe Ndibe (West Hartford) amassed 19 ½ of the teams' 60 ½ points with a pair of second-place finishes and a fifth-place showing. In a field of 36, Ndibe equaled the best mark in the long jump, placing second (20-5/6.22m). He was also second among 11 in the triple jump (42-3 1/2/12.89m) and shared fifth place in the high jump (5-10/1.78m) among 17 competitors.
Sophomore Sone Sourignamath (Old Saybrook) gave Eastern a 2-3 finish in the triple jump, following Ndibe's second-place finish by claiming third with a distance of 40-4 ¾ (12.31m).
