Box Score CHICOPEE, Mass. – In the first five meetings in the series, the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team dominated Elms College, outscoring the Blazers by 11-1. Wednesday night, in the first contest between the programs in 20 years, the Warriors again had the better of play, but this time dropped a 1-0 decision at Leary Field.
Despite outshooting Elms (2-1), 23-5 and out-cornering the Blazers, 7-3, Eastern (1-1-1) could not get one past Elms sophomore keeper Rebecca Molin, who made 11 saves for last year's NCAA Division III Tournament qualifier.
Eastern put 11 of its shots on net and the Eastern defense allowed only three of Elms' shots to reach goal, but junior Kelsey Shea's first goal of the season – a header at the far post on senior Mackenzie LaRochelle's corner kick 13 minutes before the half – stood up.
Eastern seniors Emily Becher (Brooklyn) and McKenzie Reimondo (Portland) each put three of their first shots on net, but Molin was able to stop all six. Eastern junior Kayla Labrecque (Westhampton, MA) made two saves.
Eastern competes in the Mayor's Cup this weekend, facing SUNY Oneonta at Hartwick College at 1 p.m. and Hartwick Sunday at SUNY Oneonta at 2:30 p.m.
