Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team scored ten runs in the first inning on ten hits and went on to break a two-game losing streak with a 16-7 victory over Ripon College Friday evening at Lake Myrtle Park.
In the first inning, junior third baseman Alex Parkos (Meriden) contributed two RBI singles and additional RBI singles came from senior first baseman D.J. Scavone (Auburn, MA), senior second baseman Mike Funaro (Northford), freshman catcher Kevin Murphy (Springfield, MA), junior shortstop Dale Keller (Oxford), and junior leftfielder Ryan Hood (Arlington, MA). Murphy's single drove in two runs and junior centerfielder Alexander White (West Hartford) also contributed a two-run triple as one of his three hits in the game. Scavone also doubled in the inning.
Sophomore starting lefty Brian Brown (1-2) got the first out of the inning, but his error -- which would have given him two quick outs -- allowed sophomore DH Jake LeFevre (Mansfield Center) to reach as the first of nine straight Eastern batters to reach safely.
Keller matched White with three hits and two RBI for Eastern (3-2), with other top hitters in the 16-hit attack including Parkos and Murphy, each of whom had two hits, two runs and two RBI in the game. White scored three runs and drove in two and Funaro had two hits, two runs and an RBI. le-
Defensively, the double play combination of Funaro and Keller teammed for five putouts and 12 assists without an error as the Warriors improved their fielding percentage to .966 through five games.
Junior righty Cole Ogorzalek (Portland) earned his first win in his first decision this year, closing out the game by limiting Ripon (1-7) to one hit over the final three innings. He fanned one without a walk. Making his first career start, freshman righty Nicholas Kraszewski (East Haven) pitched into the fourth inning when Ripon scored four times to make the score 12-5. Ripon had lost its first six decisions but was coming off an 8-2 decision earlier in the day over previoulsy nationally-ranked Salve Regina University, which had defeated Eastern 7-5 Tuesday.
Eastern faces Rutgers-Camden Friday at 1:15 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
