Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In her first start in 11 days, Eastern Connecticut State University freshman Morgan Bolduk (Vernon) outdueled unbeaten Springfield College junior Shelby Allen as the Warriors gained a split of a non-conference softball doubleheader Saturday with a 3-2 second-game win at Potter Field in the northern openers for both programs.
In the first game, senior Talia Loda (5-1) hurled her second shutout in three starts and drove in two runs with a fourth-inning single and sixth-inning double to carry the homestanding Pride to a 4-0 win.
Bolduk (2-3), who missed the last four games in Florida due to injury, allowed only one earned run on seven hits while fanning six and walking two for her third complete game in four starts.
In the second game, Eastern (3-9) never trailed after back-to-back two-out doubles by sophomore shortstop Sara Pisanelli (Wallingford) and sophomore first baseman Haleigh Cardello (Litchfield, NH) gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead, and sophomore No. 9 hitter Sabrina LeMere (North Branford) made it 3-1 with her first collegiate RBI – a two-out single in the sixth which plated sophomore DP Morgan Sanson (Thomaston).
Springfield (10-2) got one back in the bottom of the sixth on three hits and an infield error, but Bolduk left the bases loaded with an inning-ending fly ball to LeMere in center, then got out of another bases-loaded jam in the seventh with another fly ball to LeMere.
Sanson (1-3) allowed only two earned runs on five hits over the final five innings after the Pride pushed across two unearned runs in the first inning of the first game, but Loda spaced five singles and a double without walking a batter and fanning seven.
In two games, Cardello, Bolduk, LeMere, Sanson, Pisanelli and freshman second baseman Alexis Tyrrell (Torrington) all had two hits, with Cardello, Tyrrell, Pisanelli and freshman leftfielder Kamdynn Moroney (Sandy Hook) all doubling.
Pisanelli hit safely in both games to extend her hitting streak to eight and improve her batting average to .349.
Springfield batted .283 in the doubleheader (15-of-53), exactly 100 percentage points below its season average.
Eastern visits Trinity College Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
