Box Score HARTFORD – The Trinity College softball team wiped out Eastern Connecticut State University's early four-run lead by scoring five times in the third and tacking on six more over its final three at-bats in an 11-7 non-conference victory Tuesday afternoon.
The second game was called before it became a regulation game with Trinity batting in the bottom of the fifth inning and the score tied at 1-all.
The second and third career RBI by freshman righfielder and cleanup hitter Kamdynn Moroney (Sandy Hook) helped stake Eastern (3-10) to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but Trinity (8-5) bounced back by scoring five runs in the third on four hits, a passed ball, walk and infield error to knock out Eastern sophomore lefty starter Morgan Sanson (Thomaston) to take the lead for good.
Three of the five runs charged to Sanson (1-4) were unearned in the third, when the first four Trinity batters reached safely – three of them on hits. Leading 5-4, the Bantams tacked on three more runs in the fourth -- two coming home on No. 3 hitter Courtney Erickson's two-out, two-run single.
Freshman second baseman Alexis Tyrrell (Torrington) was hit by pitch with one out in the first and stole three bases (7-for-7 on the season) to stake the Warriors to a quick 1-0 lead.
The Warriors pushed across single runs in their final three at-bats on two-out singles by freshman utility player Morgan Bolduk's (Vernon) in the fifth, and Sanson in the sixth and Tyrrell's one-out single in the seventh.
Erickson drove in three runs with two hits for Trinity and No. 9 hitter Meagan Race plated two and scored two with two hits and a fielder's choice.
Eastern, which has lost five straight to Trinity after a 14-game winning streak against the Bantams, got two hits from Bolduk, Tyrrell, Sanson and sophomore centerfielder Sabrina LeMere (North Branford). Sophomore shortstop Sara Pisanelli (Wallingford) extended her hitting streak to nine by opening the sixth with a double.
Eastern opens its home and Little East Conference seasons Saturday against the University of Southern Maine with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
