WESTON, Mass. – Competing in their second meet in less than 24 hours, the Eastern Connecticut State University women's swim team dropped decisions to host Regis College and Bridgewater State University Saturday. Regis won, 227-48 and Bridgewater posted a 237-45 victory.
Junior Kerry-Rose Buchanan (Southington), coming off a fifth-place finish at Friday night's season-opening University of Saint Joseph's Pentathlon, was Eastern's highest finisher Saturday with third-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:11.02) and 500 freestyle (5:54.99). She also swam the opening leg of the 200 freestyle relay, which was fifth. Other swimmers on the relay were freshman Julia Keller (Torrington), junior Tegan Ruschmeier (Vernon) and freshman Sophia Maselli (Newington).
Other Top 5 finishers for Eastern were Ruschmeier in the 100 butterfly, junior Amanda Mitchell (Rocky Hill), freshman Megan Gallagher (Watertown) and the 200 medley relay. Ruschmeier (1:13.37) was fourth in the 100 butterfly, Mitchell (31.67) fourth in the 50 butterfly and Gallagher fifth in both the 500 (6:25.34) and 1000 (13:05.48) freestyle.
The fifth-place 200 medley relay was comprised of sophomore Elisabeth Graves (Norwich), senior co-captain Lauryn Smith (Colchester), Mitchell, and senior co-captain Callan Veltheim (New London).
Eastern competes at the UMass Dartmouth Louise Goodrum Invitational Saturday at 11 a.m.
