Men's Soccer: Patrick Agyemang is Third All-America Selection in Program History

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut State University sophomore forward Patrick Agyemang (East Hartford) has been selected as the third All-America in the 60-year history of the men's soccer program by being named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III third team, released today.

The team was comprised of 48 players, with 15 earning first-team honors, and 16 to each of the second and third teams. Agyemang, this past season's Little East Conference Offensive Player-of-the-Year with 21 goals and seven assists, was among 21 forwards and ten players from New England institutions named to the All-America team. Forty of the selections were juniors and seniors.

Previous Eastern players named to the All-America team were Glenn Judge, a junior forward in 1986, and Kyle Bedini, a senior defender in 2008, both second-team selections. Both are members of the Eastern Athletics Alumni Hall of Fame.

In addition to being named LEC Offensive Player-of-the-Year, Agyemang repeated as a first-team All-LEC pick and was a first-team USC All-New England Region pick.

The six-foot-four inch, 180 pound Agyemang is ranked among the national leaders with a conference-leading 21 goals (tied for seventh nationally) and 49 points (seventh). His goal total is the fifth-highest in a season in program history – highest since Judge recorded the third of three straight 22-goal seasons in 1987 -- and his point total equals the sixth-highest in program history.

During the year, Patrick recorded three hat tricks and had two two-goal games and contributed as least one point in 13 of the team's 20 matches.

In 39 career matches over two seasons, Agyemang has 30 goals and 10 assists for 70 points. He ranks ninth all-time in goals and tied for ninth with 70 points. Ten of his goals have proven to be game-winners.

Among the six players this year with more than Agyemang's 21 goals, four were named to the All-America first team – including national leader Witman Hernandez, a senior from SUNY Oneonta – and two joined Agyemang on the third team.

The national semifinals and final are scheduled for this weekend in Greensboro, NC.

Eastern (17-3-0) won its second straight outright regular-season LEC title this year and has won or shared eight regular-season championships under DeVito. Ranked ninth in the New England Region in the final poll following conference playoff play, the Warriors advanced to the playoff title game for the sixth time, with the five-time champions losing, 1-0.
