Baseball: Warriors Erase Early Four-Run Deficit, Explode in Sixth Inning for Eight Runs on Ten Consecutive Hits to Overwhelm Albertus Magnus College

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team scored eight runs with two out in the sixth inning in a 15-6 non-conference win over Albertus Magnus College Wednesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

Trailing 5-1, Eastern (2-0) used a two-run double by junior transfer Ryan Bagdasarian (Glastonbury) to help get three back in the fifth, then piled on eight runs on ten hits to break the game open in the sixth. All ten hits in the inning came in succession, with two of them doubles and two of them triples. Eastern collected five run-scoring hits in succession. The inning was highlighted by junior John Mesagno's (Tappan, NY) two-run triple. 

Batting leadoff, Bagdasarian drove in four runs  on the day with two doubles and a single and scored twice, while sophomore No. 8 hitter Owen Marica (Haddam) reached safely four times with three singles and a walk, scored two runs and drove in one, while freshman No. 9 hitter Brent Cosculluela (Miami, FL) singled and tripled, scored two runs and plated one. Junior transfer cleanup hitter Luke Broadhurst (Stafford) drove in three runs with a single and double and scored a run.  

All nine starters scored at least one run for the Warriors, who had seven doubles and two triples in a 19-hit attack again five Albertus (1-1) pitchers. 

In his first career appearance, freshman righty Billy Oldham (Brookfield) -- the third of five pitchers -- was credited with the win. Oldham pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits while fanning and walking one. 

Sophomore Jack Blake (Westfield, MA) recorded his first varsity hit with a pinch two-out double to center in the eighth. 

Five of Albertus' 11 hits were good for extra bases, with three home runs accounting for four of its runs.
