Chris Wojick was hoping for a Top Ten finish if his five players played to their potential.
He got more than he had hoped for.
On the second day of the two-day event at par-72 The Captains Course, sophomore
Ashton Lewis (Fairfield) and first-year players
Cal Angelo (Southington) and
Chris Davidson (New Milford) improved their first-day performance by a combined nine strokes to pace the Warriors to a seventh-place finish among 16 teams.
Eastern, which won all four invitationals in which it competed this fall, entered Monday's action sharing eighth place and finished with a two-day total of +67, three strokes behind Nichols College and five ahead of Saint Joseph's College (ME). Babson College (+15) dominated the field, capturing the top three individual spots and rolling to a 38-stroke victory over runner-up Husson University in claiming its third consecutive NEIGA title.
Lewis, who was the medalist in three matches during the season – including the first official Little East Conference Championship ten days ago – finished 10-over and placed in a tie for 11
th among 80 golfers, with Angelo tied for 19
th (+14), sophomore
Jonah Dupuis (Hampton) tied for 27
th (+20), Davidson tied for 49
th (+23) and junior
Andrew Gromko (Canterbury) 62
nd (+28).
Lewis and Angelo each knocked two strokes off their first-day performances. Davidson improved by five strokes and Gromko matched his first-day showing of 86. On the first day, Lewis was +6, Angelo and Dupuis +8, and Davidson and Gromko both +14.
Eastern closes out its first full fall season Tuesday against Western Connecticut State University at Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury at 11 a.m.
