MANSFIELD, Conn. – Closing out the non-conference regular season schedule, Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer (5-7-2) faced off against Wesleyan University (10-1-0) at Rick McCarthy Field on Wednesday evening. Coming into the match, the Cardinals were ranked third in the Region I Poll and 17
th nationally in NCAA Division III women's soccer. While the Warriors held their own against Wesleyan, they would fall by a final score of 3-0.
The Cardinals would get on the board in the 3
rd minute when junior forward Grace Devanny netted her seventh goal of the season after junior forward Dani Milovanov cross the ball in front of the net. Graduate defender Julia Meehan would have her initial shot blocked in front before the deflection found the foot of Devanny who placed it behind senior goalkeeper
Alexis Tyrrell (Torrington) to put Wesleyan in front by one.
Eastern looked to respond a short time later when a rush into the offensive zone led to sophomore forward
Ashlyn Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) curving a ball onto senior goalkeeper Sarah Hammond from the right side of the field. Hammond would make the save to preserve the one-goal lead for Wesleyan and it would be the only save the senior would make on the evening.
The Cardinals would add to their lead in the 28
th minute when junior forward Kate Hausladen found Meehan on the right side of the box. Meehan would quickly lift the ball across the box where it would find the head of sophomore Ally Stanton who rocketed it into the back of the goal mouth to put Wesleyan ahead 2-0 which would be the score going into the half.
Emily Wallace (00)
Sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Wallace (Smithtown, NY) would start the second half for the Warriors and be challenged right away when Hausladen fired on Wallace who made the save off her face. Despite giving up a goal in the 61
st minute to sophomore midfielder Andrea Chiappetti off passes from first-year forward Katie O'Connell and Grace Devanny, the sophomore stood tall in goal.
In 45 minutes of play, Wallace would tally up nine saves while facing 10 shots on goal. Those nine saves would be a single game career high for the sophomore as she came into the game having made just four saves on the season in six appearances. In 199 minutes this season, Wallace has made 13 total saves on 15 shot attempts to give the goalkeeper an astounding 0.90 goals against average.
This season, Eastern has faced off against three teams ranked in the Region I Poll in the form of Wesleyan University, Western Connecticut State University, and Connecticut College. Additionally, Wesleyan and WestConn are ranked nationally at 17

With two matches remaining, both against Little East Conference foes to count towards conference play, the Warriors can still find themselves playing a first round match at home in the Little East Conference Tournament with some help from other teams. Eastern will wrap up their regular season home schedule with Senior Day this Saturday, October 23
rd in a Little East Conference matchup with Plymouth State University. The match will kick off at 1:00 PM at Rick McCarthy Field with the Senior Day ceremony being held prior to the start of the match.
