PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two weeks away from active competition did nothing to stagnate the Eastern Connecticut State University women's and men's swim teams. In fact, two weeks of hard training since soundly defeating Husson University Nov. 6 at the Sports Center pool showed its benefits Saturday when both Eastern teams overwhelmed their opponents at the Plymouth State University Natatorium.
Led by triple winner
Kerry-Rose Buchanan (Southington) and double winner
Lindsay Weaver (Newington), the women won six individual events and both relays and crushed Plymouth State University, 163-99, and Western New England University, 204-58 to improve to 4-1 this year in dual meet competition.
The Eastern men were even more dominant behind triple winners
Ben D'Addario (Fairfield) and
Connor Scully (Oxford), winning 12 of 14 individual events and both relays and capturing the top two spots in seven individual events in dismantling Plymouth, 178-63 to remain unbeaten (3-0) in dual meets this year.
A senior, Buchanan won the 50 (26.55) and 200 (2:06.50) freestyle and 100 breaststroke (1:18.12) in her first effort in those events this year and Weaver, a sophomore, won the 100 butterfly (1:04.81) and 100 individual medley (1:10.16) and was second in the 50 butterfly (29.01) in her fastest time this year.
First-year swimmer
Allison Ronan (Northbridge, MA) won the 200 individual medley (2:26.04) and was second in the 100 backstroke (1:06.53) and 500 backstroke (5:54.32) and sophomore
Nancy Scanlon (West Hartford) was second in the 200 individual medley (2:26.43) and 100 butterfly (1:05.30).
Sophomore
Kelly Schneider (Portland) swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay (2:05.56) and 400 freestyle relay (4:00.03), with Buchanan, Scanlon and Ronan also contributing to the 400 freestyle relay and Weaver and first-year competitors
Paige Cox (Glastonbury) and
Jenna Morin (Waterford) joining Schneider and Weaver on the winning 200 medley relay.
Five different individuals captured at least one event as the Eastern men totally dominated the competition.
A first-year performer, D'Addario broke his own record in the 100 freestyle with a winning time of 51.17 and won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:56.09 and the 50 butterfly in 26.40. A sophomore, Scully was first in the 50 (30.67) and 100 (1:07.73) breaststroke and 50 freestyle (25.01). First-year swimmer
Joseph Sylvester (Morris) won the 500 freestyle (5:23.08) and was clocked in 2:12.05 in winning the 200 individual medley as the first male to swim the event.
Additional double winners were first-year swimmer
Connor Rego (Winsted) and sophomore

The winning 400 freestyle relay set a program record of 3:34.85 behind D'Addario, Melia, Rego, and Sylvester. Melia was joined on the winning 200 medley relay by Scully and sophomores
Elliot Anderson (Goffstown, NH) and
Drew Cavar (Vernon).
