Kerry Buchanan
WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Senior Kristyn Simoneau and freshman Alice Loucraft each won all three of their events to propel the Keene State College women's swimming team to a 192-70 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at the Sports Center pool.
Keene (4-0) swimmers captured ten of 12 individiual events – getting firsts from five different individuals – and both relays. Simoneau won the 100 freestyle and 50 and 100 butterfly and the versatile Loucraft the 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
The 17-time Little East Conference champions also got two firsts from freshman Ava Rondeau in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and one each from senior Samantha Dickinson in the 50 backstroke and one from freshman Kiley Young.
Eastern junior distance freestyle standout
Kerry-Rose Buchanan (Southington) captured the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle with wins over Keene sophomore Jaelin Jang, winning by 19 seconds in the former stroke and by ten seconds in the latter. Her winning time of 11:14.22 in the 1000 represented a person-best and is the fifth-fastest time in program history.
Additional top performances for Eastern were freshman
Kelly Schneider (Portland), who was second in the 50 freestyle to Loucraft by less than a second and third in the 50 backstroke. Senior
Amanda Mitchell (Rocky Hill) placed second in the 50 butterfly and sophomore
Jordan Allen (Westerly, RI) third in the 50 breaststroke and freshman
Nancy Scanlon (West Hartford) third in the 200 freestyle.
The Warriors may close out the season March 20 in a virtual meet against Plymouth State University at 1 p.m.
