Men's Soccer: Warriors Score 38 Seconds Apart, Continue Home Dominance With Third Shutout in as Many Matches This Season

Eastern outshoots Mitchell, 25-5

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. --  The Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team continued its early-season home dominance, scoring 38 seconds apart late in the first half and going on to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Mitchell College Tuesday afternoon at Thomas Nevers Field.

Now 4-0-0 all-time against Mitchell (0-4-1) with a 15-1 goal differential, Eastern (3-2-0) posted its third shutout in as many home matches this year, with keepers Dylan Pallanck (Willington) and Nathan  Yeich (Willington) extending their combined overall scoreless streak this year to 210 minutes and 24 seconds dating back to a 3-0 Labor Day loss at No. 9 nationally-ranked Messiah College.

Against Mitchell, six different players contributed a goal or assist, with first-year players Elijah French (Tallahassee, FL) and Grady Kelly (Granby) coming off the bench to contribute their first career goals and senior Emmanuel Agyemang (East Hartford) and first-year player Walter Scudder (Unionville) each contributing a pair of assists. Eastern outshot the Mariners, 25-5.

Pallanck, a sophomore, and Yeich, a first-year player, combined on their third home shutout, with Pallanck making all three of the duo's saves and Yeich finishing up over the final eight minutes.  Pallanck lowered his season's goals-against average to 0.91 by saving Mitchell senior Eduardo Tineo's penalty kick 15 minutes into the second half after Eastern was whistled for pulling down Mitchell junior Nolan Clack in the box, preserving Eastern's 2-0 lead.

Both Pallanck and Mitchell sophomore Dylan Kinsella  saved penalty kicks, Kinsella's coming 1:23 into the second half on Eastern junior Eddy Vargas' (Norwalk) bid.

Eastern dominated play in the first half with a 17-2 advantage in shots and 6-1 edge in corner kicks, but could not break through until junior Ryan Jamieson's (Ellington) blast caromed in off the right post with 5:50 left in the half. Thirty-eight seconds later, French struck a volley from in close though Kinsella's hands to make it 2-0, and Kelly's header off Agyemang's cross from the far right side midway through the second half closed out the scoring.

First-year player Alexander Voigt (Miami) picked up his first career point when he and Scudder set up Jamieson's first goal of the match.

In its three home shutout wins, Eastern has outscored the opponent 13-0 and outshot them 93-9. Fourteen different players have chipped in at least one goal and one assist in those three home matches, with Scudder collecting four assists. Pallanck and Yeich have been called upon to make only four saves while the opposing keepers have stopped 30 Eastern shots on net.

Eastern visits the University of Massachusetts Boston Saturday in the Little East Conference opener for both programs. Eastern, the 2019 LEC regular-season champion, is ranked first and UMass Boston second (by one point) in the LEC pre-season coaches' poll, each team receiving four first-place votes.
