NORTH WINDHAM, Conn. – Led by medalist Ashton Lewis (Fairfield), the Eastern Connecticut State University men's golf team shot an aggregate 11-over par and eased to the championship of its own Warrior Invitational Monday afternoon at The Windham Club.
                                                                                                               
All four Eastern scorers broke 80 as the Warriors won by 22 strokes over second-place Mitchell. Eastern totaled 299 points, with Mitchell at 321, Albertus Magnus at 329, WestConn at 376, and Worcester State University at 392.
 
Eastern produced the top two scorers, three of the top four and four of the top six. Two of its top four were true freshmen.
 
Lewis, a sophomore, shot even-par 72 over the 6,435 yard layout, with freshman Cal Angelo (Southington) just a shot off the pace. Junior Andrew Gromko (Canterbury) carded a 76 and freshman Chris Davidson (New Milford) was at 78.
 
As a first-year player last year, Lewis won the Little East conference virtual meet last fall with a 5-under 67 and was also the medalist with a 6-over 150 in 20-mile-per-hour winds when Eastern won the inaugural LEC Invitational this past April at Valley Country Club in Warwick, RI.
 
Monday, Lewis shot 36 on both the front and back nine, leading Gromko and Angelo by one stroke at the halfway point.
 
Sophomore Jonah Dupuis (Hampton), who led Eastern with a 79 in this past April's Warrior Invitational (Covid preventing Eastern from scoring as a team), matched that score Monday. Sophomore Noel Teter (Burrillville, RI) shared fifth place for Eastern with Dupuis, with first-year player Ryan Silva (Windham, ME) at 83, senior Jarrett Soltis (New Hartford) at 87, sophomore Michael Hamill (Newington) at 88 and classmate Ethan Tessman (Clinton) at 94.
 
Eastern participates in the Westfield State University Brett Williams Invitational Thursday at Tekoa Country Club in Westfield, MA.
