MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. – Led by sophomore medalist
Ashton Lewis (Fairfield), the Eastern Connecticut State University men's golf team captured the top three places and opened its second intercollegiate season with a 310-333 victory over Wesleyan University Wednesday afternoon at the Lyman Orchards Golf Club.
Lewis, who earned medalist honors when the Warriors won the inaugural Little East Conference Invitational last spring, shot a two-over-part 73 Wednesday and was followed by sophomore
Jonah Dupuis (Hampton) and newcomer
Cal Angelo (Southington). Dupuis, third in last year's LEC Invitational, shot a 76, as did Angelo.
Eastern's fourth scorer was newcomer
Chris Davidson (New Milford), who was seventh overall with an 85.
Senior Noah Cate (79) was the only Wesleyan player to break 80.
Additional Eastern competitors included junior
Andrew Gromko (Canterbury), graduate transfer
Jack Wallace (Winthrop, MA) and sophomores
Michael Hamill (Newington) and
Noel Teter (Burrillville, RI). Gromko and Wallace checked in at 86, Teter at 87 and Hamill at 98.
Eastern hosts the Warriors Invitational Sept. 16 at The Windham Club. Participating teams include Western Connecticut, Nichols College, Worcester State University, Michell College and Albertus Magnus College.
