KEENE, N.H. – Coming off a layoff of five-plus weeks from official competition, the Eastern Connecticut State University women's and men's swim teams had a number of solid performances, but ultimately were no match for Keene State College's depth Saturday afternoon in their return-to-action at Spaulding Pool.
The Keene women (6-3) won by 198-60 and the Keene men (1-5) by 182-77.
For the Eastern (3-1) men, sophomore
Connor Scully (Oxford) broke his own record with a winning time of 2:27.37 in the 200 breaststroke and first-year swimmer
Joseph Sylvester (Morris) broke his own program mark by leading off the 200 medley relay with a time of 27.71 in the 50 backstroke to spark that relay to a .01 second win over Keene.
For the Eastern women (4-2), senior
Kerry-Rose Buchanan (Southington), sophomore
Nancy Scanlon (West Hartford) and first-year swimmer
Allison Ronan (Northbridge, MA) all contributed two second-place finishes in individual events and all three participated in two second-place relays. Sophomore
Lindsay Weaver (Newington) finished second once and contributed to a second-place relay and sophomore
Nicole Sabio (Unionville) swam the anchor of the 200 medley relay.
The Keene men commanded the top three or three of the top four places in eight of 12 individual events and the Keene women performed similarly in four events. The Eastern men were without top backstroker
Nathan Melia (Manchester) and had the maximum number of three swimmers in only two events, the Eastern women in only one.
In addition to winning the 200 breaststroke in record-setting time, Scully also won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.20) by a margin of just over a second and swam the second leg of the winning 200 medley relay (1:46.44) which edged Keene by .01 at the finish. Three men – all first-year swimmers -- combined for  seven second-place finishes:
Ben D'Addario (Fairfield), Sylvester, and
Connor Rego (Winsted). D'Addario was second in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, Sylvester in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle, and Rego in the 100 and 200 butterfly. Those three also teamed with Scully on the winning 200 medley relay which opened the competition.
In addition to Scully in the 200 breaststroke and Sylvester in the 50 freestyle, four Eastern men posted personal-bests: seniorÂ
PJ Jiménez (Meriden), sophomore
Elliot Anderson (Goffstown, NH) and first-year swimmers D'Addario and
Jared Tofil (East Hartford); Jiménez  in the 100 backstroke (1:23.51), D'Addario (1:53.50) and Tofil (2:18.09) in the 200 freestyle and Anderson  in the 200 butterfly (2:26.96).
Setting personal-bests for the women were senior

Ceili Roberts (Stratford); Streb in the 200 breaststroke (3:38.62), Ronan in the 200 individual medley (2:25.80) and Roberts in the 1000 freestyle (13:15.37).
