Men's Soccer: Warriors Never Trail in Dumping Keene in Little East

Eastern remains unbeaten on road

KEENE, N.H. – First-year midfielder Niall O'Brien (Guilford) scored the go-ahead goal 15 minutes into the second half as the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team remained undefeated on the road this year with a 3-2 Little East Conference win over Keene State College Saturday afternoon at Dr. Ron Butcher Field.

O'Brien's second goal of the year gave Eastern (5-2-1, 2-2-0 LEC) a 2-1 lead 15 minutes into the second half and the Warriors maintained the slim advantage until junior forward Caleb Ennin (East Hartford) came off the bench to make it 3-1 with his first goal of the season with under ten minutes left.

With the win, Eastern improved to 4-0-2 on the road this year, including 4-0-1 on its opponent's home field.

Sophomore midfielder Walter Scudder's (Unionville) first goal of the year in the 18th minute boosted Eastern into an early lead before Keene (3-6-1, 1-2-0) countered with the tying goal eight minutes into the second half. O'Brien's goal six minutes later gave Eastern the lead for good.

Keene was coming off consecutive 5-0 wins, the second one coming in LEC play at Plymouth State University Wednesday.

Sophomore keeper Nathan Yeich (Willington) won his fifth match in six decisions, making six saves, four coming in the second half. Yeich has given up only three goals in four road starts this year. He has an overall 0.97 goals-against average and .829 save percentage.

Eastern's goal total is its highest in a win on Keene's field in 55 years, since a 4-0 shutout gave the Warriors a 7-0-0 record on the way to an NAIA tournament berth in 1967.

Eastern visits Connecticut College Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match. The Warriors have managed only two goals in losing the last six decisions to the Camels, who are currently ranked seventh in Region I.
