BANGOR, Me. – Five swimmers won at least one event and six collected double-digit points to help the Eastern Connecticut State University women's swimming team capture the swimming portion of Saturday's swimming and diving competition at Husson University at Webber Pool.

Husson (3-0) won the overall meet, 140-137, by recording 22 points in two diving events (Eastern does not sponsor diving), but the Warriors (1-2) won the swimming portion which included 12 individual events and two relays.

Sophomore Allison Ronan (Northbridge, MA) was a triple winner in the 100 (1:05.52) and 200 (2:23.04) backstroke events and set a personal best of 1:07.26 in claiming the 100 individual medley by edging junior teammate Lindsay Weaver (Newington) by .57 seconds.

Additional individual winners were Weaver in the 200 butterfly (2:35.41), junior classmates Kelly Schneider (Portland) in the 50 freestyle (27.35) and Jillian Norbut (Bristol) in the 500 freestyle (6:18.01) and first-year swimmer Natasha Frisch (Mendota Heights, MN) with a PR of 1:16.31 in the 100 breaststroke.

Ronan has not finished lower than second in any event thus far this season and is 2-for-2 in both the 200 backstroke and 100 IM. Frisch won the 100 breaststroke for the second time in two attempts this season.

In addition to their individual firsts, Ronan, Frisch and Weaver swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay (2:01.24), as did sophomore Jenna Morin (Waterford). Ronan's time of 30.26 in the 50 backstroke was a PR and the ninth fastest time in program history.

Ronan totalled a team-high 27 points with her three individual first, Weaver adding 17 points with a first and two seconds, and Schneider and Norbut 16 points each with a first, second and third. Also in double figures in points were Frisch (12) and junior Nancy Scanlon (West Hartford). Frisch added a third place to her win in the 100 breaststroke and Scanlon swam to two seconds and a third. In the 200 butterfly, Weaver touched the wall less than two seconds ahead of Scanlon.

Despite giving away 22 points in diving, Eastern took a six-point lead into the final event of the afternoon, but the Eagles took 13 of the 17 available points in that 400 freestyle relay by winning the event and also claiming third place. Freshman Erika Barone touched less than a second ahead of Scanlon of Eastern for 11 first-place points, and with the third-place finisher in that relay ultimately deciding the outcome of the meet, Husson eased to a 14-second win over the Warriors' second relay.

In addition to Morin (6 points), additional swimmers adding points were senior Jordan Allen (Westerly, RI), first-year swimmers Katie Roberts (Deep River) and Olivia Grimm (North Haven), sophomore Ally Verdicchio (Shelton), junior Hannah Lasbury (Southington) and first-year swimmer Kaitlyn Nielsen (Berlin). Allen totalled five points with a third and fourth, Roberts four points with two fourths, Grimm two points with a fourth, Verdiccio two points with two fifths and Lasbury and Nielsen one point each with fifth-place finishes.

Husson junior Kayla Payson was the individual winner in the 100 and 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and swam the lead leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Eastern opens its home season Saturday at noon, hosting Western New England University and Plymouth State University, and participates in the Connecticut Cup Dec. 2-3 at Wesleyan University that closes out the first semester.
