DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's swim teams combined for 15 firsts and 39 top three finishes Saturday at the non-scoring University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Louise Goodrum Invitational at the Tripp Athletic Center Pool.
The entire invitational field consisted of teams which compete in the Little East Conference Championships, with Plymouth State University and Western Connecticut State University joining Eastern in the men's field and Plymouth, WestConn, Rhode Island College and Western New England University and host UMass Dartmouth joining Eastern in the six-team women's field.
Junior
Lindsay Weaver (Newington) was a triple-winner for the Eastern women and sophomore
Connor Rego (Winsted) and first-year swimmer
Sam Hurlburt (Meriden) were double winners for the men, with Rego setting a program record of 1:00.96 in a second-place finish in the 100 individual medley.
In addition to winning the 50 and 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle, Weaver swam the butterfly leg of the winning 200 medley relay and the lead leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Rego captured the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke and Hurlburt the 50 and 100 breaststroke.
Additional individual winners for the women: first-year swimmer
Natasha Frisch (Mendota Heights, MN) in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, sophomore
Allison Ronan (Northbridge, MA) in the 100 IM, and junior
Kelly Schneider (Portland) in the 50 freestyle. Ronan and Frisch also swam a leg of both winning relays, with sophomore
Jenna Morin (Waterford) contributing on the winning 200 medley relay and Schneider on the winning 200 freestyle relay.
An additional winner for the men in the 200 freestyle was sophomore
Ben D'Addario (Fairfield), who also finished second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly. Sophomore
Joseph Sylvester (
Morris) added seconds behind two teammates in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, as did junior
Drew Cavar (Vernon) in the 500 and 1,650 freestyle.
The winning men's 200 freestyle relay consisted of Rego, and juniors
Nathan Melia (Manchester),
Connor Scully (Oxford) and
Jae Pinilla-O'Dea (Madison).
