MANSFIELD, Conn. – Senior first baseman
Brooke Matyasovsky (Orange) has been a focal point of the 4th-nationally ranked Eastern Connecticut State University Softball offense during her career and on Wednesday's Senior Day, it was only fitting the senior led her team to a doubleheader sweep over U.S. Coast Guard Academy at Clyde Washburne Field.
Going 4-for-6 with a home run in each game of the twin bill, a double, single, and five RBIs, Matyasovsky helped power the Warriors (30-4) to a pair of victories over the Bears (16-12) by final scores of 6-0 and 5-2.
With 36 career home runs, Matyasovsky moves within four of tying Arielle Cooper '13 for the most home runs in program history. The former All-America third baseman fittingly enough was on the other end of Matyasovsky's performance as she continues her second season at the helm of Coast Guard's softball program.

Graduate outfielder
Alexis Tyrrell's (Torrington) six-pitch walk and steal of second with Matyasovsky up to bat helped bring about the first run of the game when the senior doubled over senior outfielder Maggie Perez's head to score Tyrrell in the first inning. It was the beginning of a four-run inning for Eastern who used a double by senior third baseman
Julia SanGiovanni (East Haven) and towering two-run home run by senior right-hander
Carley Stoker (Sandy Creek, NY) to take an early 4-0 lead.
Capping off the scoring for the Warriors and a three-RBI game one, Matyasovsky's two-run home run to dead centerfield put Eastern ahead 6-0 in the fifth inning as they cruised to their game one victory over the Bears.
After 9 1/3 consecutive innings of no-hit ball spanning from her start against Keene State College through her no-hitter against UMass Boston on Saturday until one out in the second inning of game one, senior right-hander
Morgan Bolduk (Vernon) allowed an infield single to sophomore left-hander Isabelle Shroyer in the second inning. That would be one of only two hits given up by Bolduk (9-1) who exited after four innings giving up no runs on two hits while striking out four.
Earning her first save of the season, Stoker came in to pitch the final three innings of the game, allow no runs on no hits while striking out and walking a batter. Since giving up four runs against Southern Maine back on April 2
nd, Stoker has not allowed a run in four appearances totaling nine innings while only giving up three hits, four walks, and punching out 14 batters.
Prior to Game One, Director of Softball Operations, Joe Banas and Special Olympian Michael Calhoun
were co-recipients of the 37th annual Jeffrey W. Anderson Memorial Award

A one-out triple by graduate outfielder
Alexis Tyrrell (Torrington) got the Eastern offense started in game two, leading to Matyasovsky's first of two RBIs when she singled up the middle to score Tyrrell and put Eastern ahead 1-0 in the first inning. Coast Guard responded with a leadoff double from sophomore catcher Lillia Farlow who eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Shroyer to even the score up at one in the second.
With two outs and runners on first and second, sophomore right-hander
Alexis Michon (Montville) worked out of trouble, retiring junior second baseman Selena Serna to end the threat. Four unanswered runs between the third and fourth innings helped the Warriors regain control, 5-1, and never look back.
Starting with Matyasovsky's second home run of the doubleheader in the third, three more Eastern runs came across in the fourth starting with Michon reaching on a sacrifice bunt turned error by charging sophomore third baseman Julia Breidenthal. Junior outfielder
Taylor Darby (South Windsor) singled in Michon while senior outfielder
Laura Zenk (Hermon, ME) scored after Darby drew a rundown situation before getting back safely to first.
Reliving Michon (15-1), who earned her 15
th win of the season, in the fifth inning, junior right-hander
Alyssa Vilchez (Brampton, ON) allowed a leadoff double to junior first baseman Katie Becker and a two-out RBI single to junior shortstop Mariah Dewey to trim Eastern's lead to three, 5-2. Vilchez would proceed to settle in for the next couple of innings before the Bears threatened again during their final at-bats in the seventh inning.
A single by Becker and walk issued to Serna with one out gave Coast Guard a chance to tie with the top of the lineup batting. After a sacrifice bunt by sophomore outfielder Christine Casey advanced the runners, Dewey hit a tailing fly ball into foul territory that was reeled in by Tyrrell in right field with a spectacular diving catch that used every inch of the 5'2" graduate's body, securing the sweep for the Warriors on Senior Day.
Earning her fourth save of the season,
Alyssa Vilchez moves within one save of tying All-America pitcher Molly Rathbun '12 for the most single-season saves in program history at five.
With one hit in game one, graduate outfielder
Cassie Woods (Mystic) moves within one hit of recording 100 hits in just two seasons in an Eastern uniform.
The Warriors will have a quick turnaround with a Little East Conference doubleheader against Rhode Island College scheduled for tomorrow afternoon with first pitch for game one scheduled for 4:00 PM.
A sweep in the doubleheader will clinch the LEC regular season title and the number one seed in the conference for Eastern who would then host the four-day tournament starting next Wednesday. It would be the first time since 2015 in which the LEC Tournament was played at Clyde Washburne Field.
