WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior All-America middle blocker
Anna Barry (Andover) had 26 kills with a .538 attack percentage as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team maintained its mastery over two non-conference opponents Saturday at the O'Connell Athletic Center on the University of Saint Joseph campus.
Eastern (2-1) swept Mount Holyoke College (1-1) in the first match between the programs in 17 years, improving to 11-1 against the Lyons with their tenth straight win over MHC, 26-24, 25-20, 25-21. Coming right back against a rested University of Saint Joseph (0-3) team, Eastern dropped the opener but eventually surged to the four-set win, 19-25, 25-18, 25-10, 25-10, downing USJ for the 19
th straight time. The first-set loss to the Blue Jays ended a streak of 44 consecutive set win over USJ.
With 26 kills and four block assists, Barry led Eastern with 28 points on the afternoon. Sophomore right side
Bella Johnson (Marlborough) followed with 19 points, junior pin
Paige Savitsky (Centereach, NY) with 18.5 and senior middle
Nayeli Cruz Martinez (Toa Baja, P.R.) with 16.5. Johnson contributed 15 kills, four blocks and a service ace, Savitsky 18 kills and a block assist and Cruz Martinez nine kills, five service aces and five block assists.

Meg Verizzi (Lebanon) totaled 51 in seven sets and first-year setter

Cassie Parmelee (East Berlin) had eight service aces and finished the day with 11. The eight aces are one shy of the four-set record, shared by four players. In all, the Warriors collected 25 service aces in seven sets. Senior libero
Paula Perez (Caguas, P.R.) and Savitsky combined to handle 85 receptions with a .905 percentage, with Perez digging up 27 balls and Parmelee 14.
Eastern set the tone for the day by rallying for the two-point win over Mount Holyoke after trailing 8-1 and surviving set point by scoring the final five points after trailing 24-21. A MHC service error made it 24-22 and Parmelee served the final four points. Savitsky's two kills and two MHC attack errors gave the Warriors that first-set win.

Eastern visits Roger Williams University Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match. Last year, the Warriors erased a five-match losing streak against the Hawks, overcoming a 2-1 deficit with a five-set win in the season-opener at Geissler Gym.
