Swimming: Men & Women Post Senior Day Sweep of Saint Joseph

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's and men's swim teams combined to win 24 of a possible 28 individual events and all four relays as the Warriors closed out their home seasons with wins over the University of Saint Joseph Friday night at the Sports Center pool.
 
The women posted a 198-54 victory and the men won by 188-63.
 
For both the Eastern women (6-3) and men (5-2), five different individuals combined for ten first-place finishes in individual events. Both Eastern teams also took the top spots in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
 
Junior Kelly Schneider (Portland) won all three of her events for the women and also swam leadoff on the 200 freestyle relay which closed the meet. Junior Lindsay Weaver (Newington) and sophomore Allison Ronan (Northbridge, MA) were double winners and both also took a second to each collect 22 points behind Schneider's team-leading 27 points.
 
Other individual winners for the women were junior Jillian Norbut (Bristol), sophomore Maya Brody (East Granby) and first-year swimmer Natasha Frisch (Mendota Heights, MN).
 
For the men, juniors Nathan Melia (Manchester) and Connor Scully (Oxford) and sophomores Connor Rego (Winsted), Joseph Sylvester (Morris) and Ben D'Addario (Fairfield) all won twice each. Scully and Sylvester each also checked in with second-place finishes to give them a team-leading 22 points, while Rego added a third and finished with 21 points. Others in double figures in points were D'Addario and Melia with the 18 points they accumulated with two firsts each. First-year swimmer Sam Hurlburt (Meriden) contributed 11 points with two seconds and a third and junior Drew Cavar (Vernon) chipped in ten points with two seconds and a fourth.
 
Megan Gallagher (Watertown), the first graduating senior under fourth-year head coach Sarit Gluz, was recognized along with her family prior to the start of the final home meet of her career. A four-year member of the program. Gallagher was fifth in the 50 backstroke and swam the opening leg of the third-place 200 medley relay.
 
Eastern closes out the regular season Saturday against Roger Williams University and Babson College at Bristol, RI before competing in the Little East Conference Championships Feb. 17-19 at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, MA.
