GORHAM, Maine – Senior Hannah Banks scored twice and freshman Dylan Barr added a third to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 3-0 Little East Conference win over Eastern Connecticut State University, sending the Warriors to their fifth straight loss Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
Eastern (2-8-1, 0-2 LEC) trailed by only one goal until Southern Maine (8-6, 2-0 LEC) padded its lead with two goals in the final 20 minutes. Ranked second among seven teams in the LEC pre-season poll, Southern Maine defeated Eastern for the sixth time in the last seven meetings between the teams.
The contest was the Huskies' eighth at home in 14 matches this year, and improved the team's record at Hannaford Field to 7-1.The hosts had lost four of their previous five entering play. Eastern is 2-5 away from home.
Making her third appearance but first career start, first-year goal
Veronica McKenna (Wethersfield) made nine saves. Eastern was outshot, 22-5.
Eastern hosts Connecticut College Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in a non-conference match, looking for its first home win after a tie and three losses.
