Men's Lacrosse: Warriors Open With a Bang in Home-Opening LEC Win

MANSFIELD, Conn. --  The Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team outshot Salem State University 62-4, picked up 58 ground balls and won 17 of 21 faceoffs in an 18-1 victory over the Vikings in the Little East Conference season-opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.
 
All 32 healthy players saw time for Eastern (3-4, 1-0 LEC), which snapped a three-game losing streak in its home-opener and improved to 20-0 all-time in the series with Salem State (1-6, 0-1 LEC).
 
Fourteen different players chipped in a points for the Warriors and 24 picked up at least one of the team's record total for ground balls. First-year sophomore Baden Krisst (West Hartford) had his first career points with two goals and two assists while sophomore Jason Ioli (Trumbull)  collected his first points of the year, matching sophomore Tim Lichack (Clinton) and first-year player Warren Channing (Glastonbury) with three goals each. Sophomore Brycen Kennedy (Southington), last year's team-leader in goals and points, had two goals and three assists to improve his team-leading total to 15 goals and 21 points.
 
At the faceoff X, junior Scott Galbo (East Lyme), and sophomores Rick O'Neal (East Hartford) and Cam Gregory (Hebron) combined to win 17 of 21 draws. Galbo was 8-of-9, O'Neal 5-of-8 and Gregory 4-of-4. With his performance, Galbo pushed his faceoff winning percentage over .500 to 51.5. Galbo also led all players with nine ground balls, Kennedy corralling six and senior Ryan Stocks (Longmeadow, MA) five.
 
Senior Andrew Golden (Somers) had three of Eastern's season-high 16 caused turnovers, with Stocks, junior Andrew Pendagast (Southbury) and first-year player Josh Grossman (Silver Spring, MD) totalling two.
 
In the game, Eastern established season-high in goals, assists (3), ground balls, turnovers caused and forced (41), and faceoff winning percentage (81.0).
 
Eastern visits Clark University Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference match.
