Men's Lacrosse: Warriors Regain Winning Ways on Road With 10-Goal Victory

CASTLETON, Vt. – Six different players chipped in a goal during an opening 9-0 run and junior Scott Galbo (East Lyme) won ten of 13 faceoff when the Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team won its first road game in five weeks with a 19-9 Little East Conference victory over Castleton University Saturday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium.

Eastern (5-8, 1-3 LEC) recorded its most goals and faceoff wins (19) and second-most highest shot total (58) this year in improving to 5-1 all-time in the series against Castleton (4-9, 1-2 LEC), which had won its last two home games.

Eastern, which had lost six straight road games dating back to March 14 after winning two of its first three, got goals from six different players in racing to a 9-0 lead 26 minutes into action before the hosts broke through on the first of senior Dawson Nalette's five goals with under three minutes left in the first half. The Warriors limited Castleton freshman season scoring leader Ian Edgar to one goal (on one shot).

Led by senior Jonathan Bernier's (Somers) five goals and two assists (on six shots), 11 players contributed at least one point. Senior Garrett Lapham (Trumbull)  and first-year player Warren Channing (Glastonbury) each added five points and sophomore Tim Lichack (Clinton) four. Galbo recorded his second-most wins and second-best winning percentage this year at the faceoff circle, with sophomore Cam Gregory (Hebron) coming off the bench to win five of seven.

Eastern was whistled for a season-low two penalty, neither extra-man opportunity leading to a Castleton goal.

Senior long-stick midfielder Domenic Scarano (Berlin) won a season-high 11 ground balls in helping the Warriors to a 45-28 advantage in that category. Senior Nick Collazo (Park Ridge, NJ) made 14 saves for the second straight game – equalling his second-most in a match this year.

Eastern hosts Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a conference match Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Bucs defeated Eastern twice last year, 15-10 late in the regular season and 15-5 in the first round of the LEC playoffs, both games on the road.
