Cross Country: At UMD Invite, Women 2nd Among Little East Teams, Men 4th

50th University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational
Run at the Bob Dowd Cross Country Course, Dartmouth, MA

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior co-captain Thomas Stone (Glastonbury) and sophomore co-captain Alison Clerc (Wolcott) cut roughly a minute off their times from a year ago when they both ran No. 2 for the Eastern Connecticut State University cross country teams at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational in leading their respective teams this year to finishes of 18th and 21st, respectively.

Competing in large fields of nearly 40 teams which included Division I, II and III teams, both Eastern teams totalled  560 points. Division I Boston University had little difficulty besting runner-up Division II Stonehill College on both the women's and men's sides. The Connecticut College women and Plymouth State University men were the top DIvision III team finishers in third and eighth places, respectively.

Placing 51st overall in a time of 26:15 in a field of 282 runners over 8000 meters last year, Stone paced the men in 32nd place in a time of 25:40  in a field of 306 competitors this year. LeClerc was 64th overall in a time of 19:27 in a field of 283 runners over 5000 meters t
his year after placing 132nd last year in a time of 20:20.

Last year's No. 4 runners at this meet, senior Michael Parzych (Berlin) and sophomore Meghan Georgescu (Cheshire) moved up to No. 2 this year behind Stone and LeClerc this year. Parzych was 92nd overall (26:55) and Georgescu 90th (19:50). Parzych was 96th a year ago in an identical  time of 26:55, while Georgescu was 141st in a time of 20:31.

Among eight competing Little East Conference institutions in the race, the women were second to only Keene State College, which placed 12th. The men were fourth among seven LEC programs behind Plymouth, host UMass Dartmouth (13th) and the University of Southern Maine (16th).
