Cross Country: D'Andrea, Cintron Lead Warriors in LEC Championship Preview at the Keene State College Invitational

Men's Results (8000 Meters):
  1. Zachary D'Andrea (Jr.) – 26:15 (5:17 per mile) – 50th Overall
  2. Noah Hauswirth (So.) – 26:36 (5:21 per mile) – 59th Overall
  3. Sam Ambrocio (So.) – 26:46 (5:23 per mile) – 68th Overall
  4. Kyle Kornacki (Fy.) – 27:08 (5:27 per mile) – 88th Overall
  5. Jake Thompson (Sr.) – 27:17 (5:29 per mile) – 99th Overall
  6. Luke Dalton (Fy.) – 27:31 (5:32 per mile) – 112th Overall
  7. Joey Caruk (So.) – 27:36 (5:33 per mile) – 115th Overall

Zachary D'Andrea led the Warriors in a 26-team field at the Keene State College Invitational, running a personal best of 26:15. Noah Hauswirth's 26:36 makes it 7 consecutive races he has set a personal record in, dating back to the 1500m in the CGA Spring Invite on April 5. Sam Ambrocio, Kyle Kornacki, and Jake Thompson rounded out the top 5. This was the first race of the season for Ambrocio and Thompson, also marking Kornacki's second finish of the year. Luke Dalton and Joey Caruk were not far behind, giving Eastern a gap of just 81 seconds between their first and seventh runners. Khentrell Graham ran an impressive 28:22 in his first ever collegiate cross-country race. Baber, Vasquez, and Bonilla gave the Warriors far more depth than they had last meet at the Wesleyan Cardinal Invitational. The men finished 8th as a team, third in the Little East Conference. The race was the first for Eastern under new head cross country and assistant track & field coach Nicholas Noheimer '10.
 
Women's Results (6000 Meters):
  1. Isabel Cintron (So.) – 24:21 (6:31 per mile) – 87th Overall
  2. Emely Melendez (So.) – 24:22 (6:32 per mile) – 88th Overall
  3. Daria Fournier (Sr.) – 25:56 (6:57 per mile) – 161st Overall
  4. Maya D'Aquila (Fy.) – 26:04 (6:59 per mile) – 166th Overall
  5. Keira Warner (So.) – 26:05 (6:59 per mile) – 167th Overall
  6. Kayla LaMalfa (Sr.) – 27:14 (7:18 per mile) – 202nd Overall
  7. Natalie Estabrook (Fy.) – 27:28 (7:21 per mile) – 209th Overall
 
Isabel Cintron traded spots with Emely Melendez for first Warrior to come across, finishing the 6000-meter run a second faster than her teammate. Tightly packed in the 3,4,5 positions were Daria Fournier (25:56), Maya D'Aquila (26:04), and Keira Warner (26:05). Senior Kayla LaMalfa and first year Natalie Estabrook finished in 27:14 and 27:28, with Estabrook improving on her first 6k race at Wesleyan. The women finished 17th in the field of 26 teams, the 4th LEC team overall. The Warriors will revisit this course in 4 weeks for the Little East Conference Championship.  The race was the first for Eastern under new head cross country and assistant track & field coach Nicholas Noheimer '10.
 
Eastern is back in action on Saturday, October 18, when they travel to Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT for the Connecticut College Invitational. Once again, the men will race 8000 meters and the women will race 6000.
