WESTON, Mass. – A year ago in an 8-0 ambush of Regis College, Eastern Connecticut State University's
Liz LaMarco (West Hartford) had a career game with a hat track and two assists – her eight points the second most in a match in the program's field hockey history.
Wednesday, LaMarco could not match that performance, but she was not far off, as the junior scored her first two goals of the season and added an assist in a 3-1 victory over the Pride that kept Eastern (1-1) unbeaten in five games in the all-time series with Regis (0-2).
Sophomore midfielder
Emma Sanson (Thomaston) – who led last year's team as a first-year player in goals (8), assists (4) and points (20) – added two assists and first-year forward
Grace Barlage (Guilford) closed out the win with her first career goal that was set up by LaMarco with 12 minutes left.
Coming off a 4-0 opening loss at Johnson & Wales University five days ago, Eastern took the lead three minutes into the match as LaMarco scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Sanson. The lead stood until Frankie Alley pulled the Pride even when she scored after time expired in the second quarter off a feed from Ashley Monteiro after Regis was awarded a penalty corner with two second left in the half.
LaMarco potted the game-winner less than five minutes into the second half on her second goal of the match and 15
th of her career off another assist from Sanson, and Barlage made it a final two-goal win three minutes into the fourth quarter.
In her second career appearance, junior goalie
Kiana Webster (Raymond, ME) was credited with her first career win after taking over for first-year sophomore goalie
Hannah Jalowiec (Cheshire) to start the second half. Jalowiec made two saves, Webster none.
