Women's Lacrosse: Short-handed Warriors Can't Get Untracked Against Angels

Box Score PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. –  Meredith College shut out the Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team for 23 minutes – scoring seven straight goals in a span of 17 minutes – and the Angels went on to a 17-10 victory at Publix Sports Park Wednesday.

Playing without its No. 1 goalie and second-leading scorer, Eastern (3-3) was outscored 6-1 over the first 11 minutes and committed 26 turnovers in the match in dropping its second straight match. Meredith (3-2), which reached the second round of last year's NCAA tournament after going undefeated (9-0) in winning the USA South Conference regular season, has won three in a row.

Freshman Kenzie Todd, Meredith's leading scorer with 15 goals and 19 points, struck for three of her five goals in the first 11 minutes in helping the Angels to their 6-1 start.

Sophomore attack Alexa Vizzini (Vernon, NJ) paced Eastern with six goals to improve her team-leading totals to 21 goals and 24 points, while first-year midfielder Jenna Mahoney (North Reading, MA) won five of the team's 14 draws, junior Abby Parisi (Fairfield) and junior Claire Riccitelli-Pestana (Wallingford) collecting three each.

First-year goalie Savannah Goodness (New Fairfield) made 11 saves, while Meredith senior goalie Madeline Horrell,who entered play with a .395 save percentage, needed only six saves in the win.
 
The match featured 15 cards that led to six man-up goals (four by Meredith).

Eastern returns home March 23, hosting FDU-Florham at 4 p.m. at Rick McCarthy Field. The Red Devils (2-1) visit Drew University Thursday and host Moravian University March 20 prior to meeting the Warriors.
