MANSFIELD, Conn. – Junior Alexis Ashton and sophomore Julianna Medina combined for 12 goals and won 21 of their team's 22 draws and the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team scored four man-up and one man-down goals in handing Eastern Connecticut State University its third straight loss, 18-12, Sunday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.
In the first meeting between the programs, Ashton and Medina dominated play for FDU (3-3), which recorded a season-best in goals snapped a two-game losing streak. Ashton had seven goals and an assist to improve her team-leading totals of 28 goals and 32 points, won four ground balls and caused three turnovers and claimed 14 of her team's 22 draws, while Medina added five goals (giving her 18 on the year) and won seven draws to up her team-leading total to 36.
Playing its first match in nine days, Eastern (3-4) scored the first goal in all four quarters but was ultimately outscored in all but the first. The Warriors scored the first two goals of the match in a span of 28 seconds in the opening minutes and led by three goals in the final minute of the first quarter but was outscored 7-1 over seven minutes in the second quarter as the Devils took an 11-8 lead into the half. Eastern never got closer than two goals in the second half.
In FDU's 7-1 scoring run in the second quarter, Ashton scored three straight in a span of less than four minutes and junior Claudia Zappia contributed the first two of her game total of four in a span of 66 seconds that closed out the first half. In the game, Zappia also contributed three assists and first-year defender Abigail Fortemps a game-high four.
Eastern was issued ten of the first 11 cards of the game, and the Devils responded with four man-up goals and also a man-down goal which made it 18-11 with just over a minute left in the match. Three of FDU's four cards came in succession in the final 2:32, with the game well in hand for the visitors.

Mackenzie Brown (Southington) made 12 saves while FDU sophomore Alison Kozik stopped nine.
Eastern season scoring leader
Alexa Vizzini (Vernon, NJ) roughly equalled her season average with three goals but was limited to five shots (three below her average) by the FDU defense, led by graduate defender Erica Blackburn. Vizzini scored twice in the first quarter, breaking a 3-3 tie with the first and making it 6-3 three minutes later, but was limited to just one more the rest of the way on a man-up goal five minutes into the fourth quarter with Eastern trailing by six.
FDU outshot Eastern by seven, won the ground ball battle by five, and collected ten more draws.
Junior midfielder
Abby Parisi (Fairfield) came off the bench to match Vizzini with three goals and also had an assist and three ground balls. Parisi recorded the first goal of the second half but that marker with four minutes gone in the half was Eastern's only one of the quarter. First-year defender

Eastern visits Framingham State University Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in a non-conference match.
