MANSFIELD, Conn. – Sophomore No. 8 hitter Maddy Bowen (Hudson, NH) ignited a two-out, game-winning rally with a single and senior Sarah Remillard (Grafton, MA) ended the first game with a two-run double for a 3-2 Little East Conference victory over Keene State College and an eventual sweep Saturday afternoon at Clyde Washburne Field.

In the second game, the Warriors tied the game with a run in the fourth on sophomore Emma Marelli's (Waterford) two-out RBI single and broke the game open by scoring five unearned runs in the fifth on two-run doubles by Bowen and Marelli and three errors in a 9-5 victory.

The doubleheader sweep is the first of the year for Eastern (12-9-1, 4-2 LEC), which extended its winning streak against Keene (4-17, 0-5 LEC) to 18.

Graduate righty pitcher Alyssa Vilchez (Brampton, ON) won her 25th and 26th career games. She pitched a complete-game seven-hitter with three strikeouts and three walks in the opener where Keene's runs came on a solo home run by cleanup batter Trace Wallace that gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the fourth and a two-out solo blast by Elyse Picard that provided Keene with a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Vilchez (9-4) pitched the final three innings of the nightcap in relief of junior starter Maggie Rubeck (Easthampton), retiring the side in the top of the fifth before the Warriors pushed across their five runs in the bottom of the inning. Vilchez allowed two hits and walked four with two strikeouts.

Remillard's game-winning double in the first game was the 99th hit of her career, while graduate third baseman Julia SanGiovanni (East Haven) was hit once in each game that tied the NCAA Division III career record of 80.

With two out and none on and Eastern trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game, Bowen singled to left and No. 9 hitter Kaley Laird (Bristol) drew the only walk from complete-game losing pitcher Carissa Mill. Marelli then recorded her only hit of the game with a single to load bases for Remillard. Unable to get the ball out of the infield in her first three at-bats, Remillard broke an 0-for-9 slump by doubling down the left field line to send home Bowen and Laird.

In the second game, Marelli, the leadoff hitter, was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored, while SanGiovanni had two hits and two RBI to move to within two hits of becoming the fourth player in program history with as many as 200 career hits.

Vilchez was 3-for-3 in the first game. She tripled and scored on SanGiovanni's sacrifice bunt to tie the game, 1-1, in the fourth. She also doubled with one out in the sixth but was caught stealing third.

On the day, Vilchez allowed nine hits and three (earned) runs with five strikeouts and seven walks en route to her two victories. Vilchez (double and triple, two runs) and Marelli (two doubles, three RBI and two runs)) each had five hits. SanGiovanni reached four times with two hits  (double) and and a pair of HBP, and three RBI. Laird reached twice by walk and scored three runs. Marelli handled five chances in the field to improve her season fielding percentage to .989 (1 error on 89 chances). As a team, the Warriors commited only one error and are now fielding .975.

Eastern hosts the University of Hartford Wednesday in a 3:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
