The first-year transfer was the only player to break par when he shot a sizzling 3-under 68 in his collegiate debut to lead the Warriors to a season-opening 25-stroke victory over runner-up Wentworth Institute of Technology in a four-team invitational hosted by Mitchell College at the par-71, 6,562 yard Shennecossett Golf Course. It is his first weekly honor. McDaniel won by five strokes over teammate Jake Napolitan, shooting even par on the front nine and 3-under 35 on the back nine. Behind Eastern (+9, 293) were Wentworth (+34, 318), Western Connecticut (+42, 326) and host Mitchell (+67, 351). Eastern was scheduled to compete against Western Connecticut Monday at The Connecticut Golf Club in Easton before hosting the Fifth Annual Warrior Invitational Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
